Medication-Assisted Treatment in Murphy

Methadone Treatment

At MedMark Murphy, medication-assisted treatment includes methadone, a full opioid agonist that reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings. It’s taken once a day under medical supervision, paired with counseling and support.

Early in treatment you’ll come in daily. As you stabilize, take-home doses may be earned based on your progress and program guidelines.

Buprenorphine and Suboxone Treatment

Buprenorphine may also be available at MedMark Murphy. It works on the same receptors as methadone but has a ceiling effect, lowering the risk of misuse and overdose when taken as prescribed. Ask your provider at your evaluation which options this center currently offers, or see our guide to methadone versus buprenorphine.

OBOT (Office-Based Buprenorphine Treatment) Now Available

MedMark Murphy now offers buprenorphine through office-based opioid treatment. You can take it either as a daily sublingual medication or get it as a long-acting injection.

OBOT is a less intensive treatment option, suiting people who don’t need structured counseling as part of care. You pick up your buprenorphine prescription at a local pharmacy. This means some costs may be covered by your pharmacy insurance benefits, where applicable.

If you’re currently prescribed methadone and are considering switching to buprenorphine, your provider can help determine whether it could be the better option for you. OBOT can also be a step-down if you’re moving on from a higher level of care.

Opioid Treatment Close to Home in Far Western North Carolina

Distance is the biggest barrier to treatment here. For many people in Cherokee, Clay, and Graham Counties, the alternative means crossing a state line or losing most of a morning.

That’s why dosing opens early in the morning, with Saturday hours too, so you can be treated and still make a shift. If getting here regularly is the problem, tell us when you call. There are usually more options than people expect, including take-home doses once you’re stable.
